Community eye care - Public Eye Care Forum

Considering the number of role players involved within the Eye Care Environment, most with similar objectives, the SAOA assumed responsibility for the formation and hosting of the Public Eye Care Forum, supported by all stakeholders, including the Department Health.

As the Department Health had already established a national forum primarily to address strategic issues , the Public Eye Care Forum was instituted to plan , organize , co-ordinate and monitor eye care related operations and activities in a structured manner .

Taking cognizance of the importance of Eye Care Awareness Month for all concerned, emphasis has been placed on planning and co-ordination of key activities within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with a common theme.

The Public Eye Care Forum provides the desired synergistic approach for the benefit of all stakeholders; particularly the public in terms of eye care awareness and delivery, representing a platform for potential partnerships and joint ventures and obviates the risk of duplication of effort.
