Silverstar Casino Celebrates Mandela Day

Mandela Day celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an imprint, one step at a time. Together with their sponsor partners and optometrists that kindly volunteered their time, Vision in Sight Trust made a difference in the lives of 67 pensioners from the Donavan Mc Donald Retirement Home, Roodepoort Moths and Davidsonville care of the aged.

The day would not have been such a success, without the enthusiastic participation of our sponsors Silverstar Casino (sponsored the lenses, venue, t-shirts, transport for the aged and the catering), Eurotech Optical (auto refractors), Digital Optometry (software for eye examinations), GM Optical Fashion (frames), Ebony Optical (frames) and Spectill - The Optometrists that kindly donated their time; Ronelle van Zyl, Beverly Milun, Brian Sneag, Mark Wienand, Pierre Coetzee, Dubuseng Aphane, Hameeda Abdoola, Leanie Strydom, the SAOA staff and Simon Goldblatt.

Generous donation from Copper Vision

Thanks to the generous donation from Copper Vision, Teliza a thirteen year old, who loves playing sport, received a 6 months supply of contact lenses. Her family is going through a difficult time and could not afford the lenses. A special thanks to Sam Schneider who did her eye examination.
School children receive free specs

Vision in Sight Trust and PNA donated free spectacles to school children in need at Park Senior School in Turfontein on the 11th March. With the help of UJ students, their supervisors and private Optometrists that donated their time, school children at Park Senior benefited from eye examinations and specs, in the supportive environment of their school.

Corinne Lenferna a Psychometrist who works with the school children said “Some of the learners are struggling to cope because they simply need their vision corrected and this is causing over and above blurry vision, potentially headaches, stomach aches and nausea, as well as interrupting their learning process. Every learner should have their vision assessed regularly throughout their school career as this can be the simplest of difficulties to correct and can make all the difference.”

Herman Botha - General Manager of PNA said that they were proud to support a cause that has given children the “Gift of Sight”
