Community eye care - Vision in Sight Trust

Vision in Sight Trust was pleased to receive a donation of optometric equipment that was donated by Susanna Meier. Some of the equipment was donated to the Adler Museum at Wits.
“I am happy making this donation on behalf of my late husband Mr. Ernst Guenther Meier. My Husband graduated as an optometrist in 1953. He worked a few years in Port Elizabeth, then for a few years he joined his fathers business, Optical Instruments. He also spent two years in Germany working for Zeiss Ikon.
He practiced as an optometrist full time as from 1965, first from Cavendish Chambers Johannesburg, then from Trust Bank Centre Randburg and finally from home semi-retired due to ill health which plagued him throughout his life.
My husband was passionate about optometry and helping his patients to the best of his ability was his priority. My husband passed away December 2000”.

Three Generations of Mandela’s Support Eye Care
Three generations of the Mandela family underwent eye examinations with the aim of creating awareness of eye care and regular eye examinations. Winnie Madikizela, Zindzi and her son Zondwa had their eyes examined by John Shubach from Vision Optometrists.

Zindzi is the patron of the Vision in Sight Trust, the fundraising body of the SA Optometric Association whose aim is to raise funds to supply eye care to those who cannot afford it.

Zindzi said that it was a great privilege for her to be associated with the Trust and her involvement in creating awareness of eye care is important because our daily lives are affected by our quality of vision.
