Press Release- Set Your Sight On A Record @ Montecasino

Sometimes you have to do extraordinary things to draw attention to the really important things. One of those important things is eye care.’ Cathy Franconi- Vision in Sight Trust

The South African Optometric Association’s fundraising leg, The Vision in Sight Trust and its sponsor partners Transitions Healthy Sight For Life, Oakley and Monte Casino are planning to make South African history at The Piazza at Montecasino on Friday the 17 October 2008. They aim to set an eye screening record with the help of an anticipated 2000 members of the public, corporate teams, school pupils and old age homes. The event happens at the tail end of international Eye Care Awareness Week 6-10 October, which is a week dedicated to highlighting the importance of eye care and healthy vision. This year’s theme is ‘Vision impairment in later life’

With the participation of SAOA member optometrists and the University of Johannesburg optometric students offering their expertise, the event promises to run without a glitch, with numbers been chalked up as the day progresses.

Cathy Franconi, the organiser of ‘SET YOUR SIGHT ON A RECORD’ said the event was going to be supported by many South African television, music and sports stars, including Greg Minnaar, mountain bike world champion, The MTN Professional Cycling Team and Shaun Rubenstein, canoeist and Olympic athlete. Kaizer Chiefs, who are known to support Vision in Sight Trust events, will also be making an appearance, along with hot SA band Klopjag. The day will be graced by the presence of Vision in Sight patron Zindzi Mandela, who will be drawing the name of the winner of the Oakley/ Montecasino Experience Pack to the value of R15 000.

Oakley and Montecasino have sponsored prizes worth thousands of rand. Competitions will be run all day where these prizes will be up for grabs.
